Ranking Member Roe Applauds Senate Passage of Mental Health Package, Encourages Immediate House Consideration

Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after the Senate passed S.785, as amended, the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act:

“I congratulate my friends, Chairman Moran and Ranking Member Tester, for shepherding the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act through the Senate today,” said Ranking Member Roe. “This important bill is the culmination of years of hard work, which is reflected in the broad bipartisan support it has received in Congress, in the Administration, and in the veteran service organization community. It includes numerous provisions that would help fulfill our calling to support and protect veterans at risk - including one that is named after my constituent, Staff Sergeant Parker G. Fox, who tragically lost his life to suicide just a few weeks ago. While we cannot bring Parker and the thousands of other lives already lost back, we can solemnly honor them and all of our nation’s veterans by delivering this bill to President Trump’s desk without any further delay. I call on Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Takano to bring this bill to the House floor at the earliest opportunity this month.”

The provision in the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act that is named after SSG Fox is modeled off of the bipartisan Improve Act, which is sponsored by General Jack Bergman and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan in the House, to learn more click here.
