Ranking Member Roe Applauds Presidential Task Force Report on Preventing Veteran Suicide

Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after the release of the President's Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide (PREVENTS) Task Force report:

“I applaud Dr. Van Dahlen and the entire President’s PREVENTS Task Force on the release of their roadmap to preventing veteran suicide today,” said Ranking Member Roe. “I was honored to have Dr. Van Dahlen and her team visit Tennessee with me in December, where I got to witness their passion for preventing suicide among those who have served firsthand. America’s suicide crisis is a multi-faceted, public health emergency that impacts servicemembers, veterans, and civilians alike. We must do more to change the culture and conversation surrounding suicide in the public and private sectors and, most importantly, in neighborhoods across the country where the real healing work must start and end. The PREVENTS roadmap show us how and I am confident that it will help to save and improve the lives of at-risk veterans and others for years to come. The roadmap also solidifies the need for Congress to take bold, decisive action to prevent veteran suicide by passing meaningful legislation like General Bergman’s bipartisan Improve Well-Being for Veterans Act to find those veterans who are lost and support them in saving their own lives.”
