Ranking Member Roe Statement on VA’s FY 2021 Budget Request

Washington, February 10, 2020 | Samantha Gonzalez (202-225-3527)

Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs released the following statement after VA announced their Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 budget request:

"Just as he has every year he has been in office, President Trump has yet again requested a record level of funding to support our nation’s veterans. If enacted, this $240 billion top-line budget represents a quintupling of VA’s bottom line over the last twenty years. There is no question that the Department is in the midst of a critical transformation with respect to the delivery of healthcare and benefits to those who have served. With this budget request, VA will be more prepared than ever before to ensure that those efforts bear fruit for generations of veterans to come,

"Further, the tragic loss of two Special Forces soldiers in Afghanistan this weekend is a painful reminder that we are a nation still at war and heroic men and women continue to fight on the front lines for our freedoms. We will never forget the sacrifices made by Sgt. 1st Class Javier J. Gutierrez and Sgt. 1st Class Antonio R. Rodriguez, or stop working to honor and support the loved ones and brothers and sisters in arms they leave behind."
