Ranking Member Roe Applauds Secretary Wilkie on Timeliness of Implementation of Appeals Reform

Washington. D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs released a statement applauding the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert Wilkie for certifying that VA is ready to fully implement the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017 (AMA).

“I am thrilled that Secretary Wilkie has certified that VA is ready to fully implement the AMA. This certification comes at practically the earliest possible time that the Secretary could do this, and his swift certification is a testament to VA’s commitment to our nation’s veterans. The full implementation of the AMA will mean that VA can begin processing veterans' appeals more effectively and faster, and that our nation’s veterans will no longer have their appeals stuck in the old, cumbersome process.

“At our final House Committee hearing on this topic in December, VA witnesses said they were on track for on-time implementation. The Secretary’s certification shows that he confident in VA’s capabilities, which in turn makes me confident.

“I am grateful for the steadfast commitment to our nation’s veterans that both Secretary Wilkie and President Trump have shown. Today is a great reminder that the current Administration, as well as Congress, holds our veterans to the highest regard and will continue to ensure these brave men and women receive the support and services they earned.”
